It didnt crack or even tear apart. Great recipe! This is a tried and true recipe that actually tastes good to eat, unlike the commercial stuff that tastes like cardboard. Thanks for the recipe!
Such a great recipe and tutorial! It was way easier than I thought it would be and worked like a charm! This recipe is an absolute keeper. Seeing all the steps, it looks so easy. Will definitely try it. Thanks for sharing your fondant recipe!
Just happened upon your blog today and I love it! I want to try everything! I have made my own fondant and use it to make cakes all the time. A lot of people I know don't like the super sweet of the marshmallow fondant, but like you I can't stand the store bought. I add some butter and a little almond extract to my marshmallow fondant. I love the taste you get and have had rave reviews. Thanks for sharing so many yummy recipes! We are actually doing an "Alice in Wonderland" 3rd birthday party as well.
I will have to give it a try. Could you tell me what exact size and kind of mixing bowls you used to bake the cakes and some further directions. I am SO intimidated with making cakes, not good at it. But I would love to give this one a chance. If you could, could you email me some of those directions? Thank you so much. I want to try this. Your photo makes it look worth trying.
So plese tell the candle? Where on earth did you find such a wonderful singing candle???? That is the most adorable cake I have ever seen!!! You guys are so creative!!! I'm curious to know if the kids ate the fondant as part of the frosting when you cut the cake… and where did you get the candle? Fondant Recipe 5 from 20 votes. It is easy to work with and easy on the budget! Prep Time: 10 minutes. Cook Time: 2 minutes. Total: 12 minutes. Serves: Ingredients 16 ounces mini marshmallows 32 ounces powdered sugar 4 tablespoons water 1 teaspoon shortening.
Instructions Put marshmallows, water, and shortening in a glass microwavable bowl. Microwave for 20 seconds, then stir. Repeat 4 times. Pour into a mixer and mix well using the dough attachment. Add in powdered sugar a cup at a time. Mix until the shine is completely gone. You may not need to use all the sugar, just keep adding until it has the consistency of play dough.
The final result should not be sticky to the touch. When the fondant becomes too stiff to mix in the mixer, pull the fondant out and knead it on the counter, adding more sugar if needed. Knead in food coloring, if desired. From this point, you can roll the fondant out to place on a cake, cupcakes, or to create something amazing!
When working with fondant, keep all surfaces and hands lightly covered in shortening to prevent sticking. Notes Fondant can be made ahead and stored for later. Wrap it well in plastic wrap or keep it in an airtight container at room temperature.

Use this technique to create easy abstract, elegant or whimsical designs. I agree with mireillea that if you've not worked with fondant before you should buy a good brand to see what the texture should be.
I also agree with her on Michele Foster's Fondant. That stuff is hands down the winner for taste and workability. It's also very afforadable and will come out perfect everytime IF you follow the receipe just as it's written. Thank you everyone!
I didnt think anyone replied so I almost didnt even check back. I will do that then. I just dont know where to buy it because Michaels and Walmart only have the Wilton brand. I watched videos on youtube of people making the MMF Michael's is now carrying fondant with Duff Goldman's name on it.
I have seen mixed reports, but it is either Fondarific or Satin Ice, so it should be a good place to start so you can see what the texture is supposed to be if you decide to make your own later. It looks like the fondant with Duff's name on it is way overpriced.
Oh wow, thank you for pointing that out. I forgot to thank everyone for letting me know the recipes too. I read through it and saved it. I've tried small batches with the MMF this week just to get used to it. I would melt a handful of colored Easter marshmallows they are larger than mini marshmallows which makes just enough to mess around with and test. I checked out Satin Ice and found some really good prices!
Where do you find the recipe. Have fun!!!! It does pretty much all the messy work for me! I just add all the ingredients and let the hook do it's job and take out my ball of fondant and knead a bit of crisco into it and voila I have perfect fondant.
Thank you for answering that. I just now saw sweet sensations post. Not a problem at all The more info the better. I agree. I would so hate to have to make fondant without my mixer. I use half and half or milk if I want a white fondant. I've used heavy whipping cream but prefer half and half.
Gelatin is unflavored gelatin found in the grocery store isle with the jello. It's usually packaged in 4 small packets in a little box. Knox is one brand but I usually buy the store brand. It's cheaper and works just as good. Gelatin is found in grocery store baking aisle it's called knox gelatin usually. Says clear gelatin on the box. Wish we had an off brand here that stuff isn't cheap by no means. I was just at Wal-Mart last night and didn't even think to look for it there.
They have Knox at Wal-Mart. No off brand there though. But it is less expensive at Wal-Mart than the grocery store. In my area anyway.
